Smiley Face in the Sky

Jupiter, Venus and the Crescent Moon | Photo: Martin Cooper

Did you see it last night? I saw it here in Massachusetts, and it was stunningly beautiful — right after sunset, Jupiter and Venus hanging low over the horizon in the southwestern sky with the crescent moon hovering just above. Jupiter and Venus are in conjunction right now, just two degrees apart, and the moon is a waxing crescent. In Australia and other southern latitudes the three celestial objects formed a great big happy face in the heavens, but here in North America it was more of an upside-down frown. Either way, it was a pretty neat display in the sky.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. (Genesis 1:14-15)

I also witnessed it here in Delhi. It was a great sight.

Roshan – That’s awesome. I am assuming in Delhi you got to see the right-side-up smiley face then, instead of the upside-down frown that we got here.

We wanted to see the moon, Venus and Jupiter, but sadly, it was cloudy here in Maine, so we saw nothing!

It’s still pretty tonight, but the moon is much farther from the two planets now, so no smiley face! Thanks for sharing this great photo.

When my wife and I were dating in our Bible College days during the mid-70’s, I bought her a smiley face candle. That was the beginning of her 35-year collection of smiley face items. Now the Lord puts a smiley face in the sky?!! Hallelujah, what a Savior! I can’t help but think of Psalm 19…”The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork…there is no speech or language where their voice is not heard”…!! You heard from Roshan who saw this celestial smile from the other side of the globe. Yes, in this Age of Grace, our Heavenly Father of Lights is still revealing Himself to those who are sincerely seeking for truth or light…”The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men”…Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!

Don – That is a great story about your wife and the smiley faces. And yes, God has left a testimony to his glory in the sky that no one can rightly ignore.
