Classic Definition of Vacation

A vacation consists of:

Two weeks that are
too short, after which you are
too tired
to go back
to work, but
too broke
to afford not
to.  (Source unknown)

  1. Hard to say … I’m still recovering from vacationing at Disney World.

  2. Sharon Gamble says:

But then there is that other kind of vacation. We went to Cape Cod and did nothing. After that, we rested. It was soooo good to just stop. read books. listen to birds. take a nap. get up and read some more. I loved it!! (I do like the Disney kind, too, we just were in the do nothing mood this summer!)

Actually, my vacation was more of the just relax at home this time around. But I still have always liked the definition in the post. I think I first heard it in a sermon illustration back when I was a kid.

  4. Margaret says:

    Two weeks are not
    too short or
    too long. Just enough time
to rest, relax, enjoy, and ready
    to go home and back
    to work. Vacations are just
too perfect, and coming home is great
    too. Thanks be
to our wonderful God, who giveth all things
    to richly enjoy.

  5. Ray Fowler says:

How can you argue with that? Okay, cancel my post and go with Margaret’s instead!

:) This post reminded me of a Ray Steven’s song about family vacations I listened to recently. I know, not the highest tastes in music, but sometimes he hits the nail on the head in some pretty funny ways.

  7. eclexia says:

    Yep, that’s the one.

  8. Jeff says:

Here is a quote that a friend of mine posted recently on Facebook that I really like.

I am about to take a nice long two-week vacation. People at work will learn again that “the cemeteries are filled with ‘indispensable’ people.”
