Sunday Morning SoundBytes – 11/3/2013

Sunday’s message in the Foundations of Marriage series was called In the Beginning, taken from Matthew 19:4-6. Here is a brief outline of the message:

Biblical definition of marriage: Marriage was created by God as a sacred, covenant relationship between a man and a woman based on a public vow of lifetime faithfulness.

I. Marriage was created by God (Matthew 19:4a)
   A. Part of the created order
   B. The first institution

II. Male and female (Matthew 19:4b)
   A. Created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27)
   B. Not good for the man to be alone (Genesis 2:18)
   C. A suitable helper (Genesis 2:19-23)

III. A lifetime commitment of faithfulness (Matthew 19:5)
   A. Leave father and mother
   B. Be united to your spouse
   C. The two become one flesh

IV. A sacred, covenant relationship (Matthew 19:6)

   – “What God has joined together, let man not separate.”
