Somebody Shoot the Groundhog

The last I heard, the groundhog predicted an early spring. On February 2, 2007, Punxsutawney Phil, our fine, furry, fuzzy, weather prognosticator friend failed to see his shadow and promptly declared the pending demise of old man winter. He even wrote a poem about it.

That was six weeks ago today.

Since then we have had the third coldest February on record in the contiguous United States. And now, five days away from spring, New England (where I live) gets hit with a snow storm.

Please don’t anyone really shoot the groundhog. Although I may have poked some fun at PETA with one of my very first posts, you can see from my personal profile page that I am an animal lover at heart. I’m just a little grumpy from shoveling snow. (Perhaps we could all pitch in and buy poor Phil some glasses so next time he can see his shadow okay.)

“Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream . . . of spring.” (Phil Connors/Bill Murray, “Groundhog Day”)

Cherry Blossom Shower Gel

Cherry Blossom Shower Gel
So I am taking a shower this morning and my eyes happen to glance upon the label of my wife’s cherry blossom shower gel. The label proudly reads: “This finished product is not tested on animals.” My first thought was, “Then how do I know that it’s safe?”

You will be happy to know that I do not use cherry blossom shower gel, although my wife may not be happy for you to know that she does. Should future postings to this website abruptly cease, you will know that my wife discovered this post and promptly killed me.
