Sunday Morning SoundBytes – 12/20/2015

Sunday was the final message from The Spirit of Christmas series where we are studying the role of the Holy Spirit at Christmas. This message was called The Spirit of Christmas Future, taken from Romans 8:18-25. Here is a brief outline of the message:

I. The Holy Spirit was active at creation and the incarnation
   A. The Holy Spirit hovered over the waters (Genesis 1:1-3)
   B. The Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary (Luke 1:35)
   C. The Holy Spirit gives life to all (Genesis 2:7; Psalm 104:30; Ezekiel 37:1-14)

II. The Holy Spirit is active in the new creation (2 Cor 5:17)
   A. The Holy Spirit gives us new birth (John 3:5-6)
   B. The Holy Spirit brings us renewal of life (Titus 3:5)
   C. The Holy Spirit indwells the church (Ephesians 2:22)

III. The Holy Spirit will be active in re-creation
   A. The present creation is in bondage to decay
      – Romans 8:20-21
   B. The Spirit in us is a sign of the renewal to come
      – Romans 8:22-23
   C. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead will raise you
      – Romans 8:11
   D. God will reconcile all things to himself through Christ
      – Colossians 1:19-20
   E. God will live with us in the new heaven and earth
      – Revelation 21:1-4 (the ultimate fulfillment of Immanuel!)
