Thomas - That's a great question. I'm not sure how many highlights it takes before Amazon presents it as a popular highlight. I believe it takes at least three, but it may vary by book so as not to overwhelm the reader with too much underlined information. That's why I chose to use dash marks in the empty sets rather than zeros, because there could be some highlights for those verses, just not enough to trigger a popular highlight yet.

Also, putting together a chart like this will be less helpful in the future because now that people can see other people's highlights, that may influence them to highlight the same passage. Right now the feature is new enough that I believe this is a fair representation of what people have been highlighting in their Kindles over the past year or so.

Ray --- any thoughts on why verses that are very popular by highlighters of one translation appear to be totally ignored by readers of another? Or why users of NLT and ESV appear to highlight several different passages, while users of all the other translations concentrate exclusively on just a very few verses? I wonder if there's some skewing or missing data in these statistics?

Jay - The software update is pretty good. Most helpful is the ability to sort your books by collections, really a folder/tagging system. I've noticed page turns are quicker as well.

As far as a Kindle friendly Bible, I have not found it yet. I have both the NIV and ESV Study Bible. They are easy enough to navigate on my Kindle for PC application using the mouse, but they are both awkward on the Kindle device itself.

So, like you, I use the Bible on my Kindle for reading, but not for group studies, etc. where I have to look a lot of references up. For that I still use the Laridian software on my iPaq which has a great interface for looking up references quickly.

Thanks for the kindle news... I had no idea there was an update for my kindle. I am leaving it on to see if it will update. I look forward to that update. It will certainly help with reading PDF's.

Speaking of reading. Do you know which is the most KINDLE FRIENDLY Bible available? My NIV is good for reading, but it takes a lot of work to go to a different book of the Bible. There has to be something better out there. Thanks.
