I think it’s very interesting that many Conservative Christians have no problem with a woman holding such an important leadership role in politics and on the world stage, but would not allow women to be leaders in the church, or, in some cases even pray out loud or read Scripture. Is there Scriptural basis for allowing Christian women to have strong leadership roles outside the church but not inside? I think that Deborah and Miriam were political, as well as spiritual leaders, but am not sure of specific Scriptural mandates.

I continue to wrestle with various interpretations of Scriptural teaching on the role of women in the church myself, and do not want to sound judgmental, just genuine wondering.

(On a side note, although I am fairly liberal in my own political views, I agree with Margaret (Mom) that it will be nearly impossible for Gov. Palin to be both a Mom and a world leader. I just work part-time while being a Mom and know there are times when my work suffers, while I handle Mom duties that can’t be “put off till later”. And, there are times I have not been there for my kids due to work responsibilities. However, if my work suffers, the world stage is not affected.

Note: I’m a pro-life Democrat and Obama supporter. But during a recent Massachusetts election, chose not to support the Democratic candidate for governor, Shannon O’Brien, because she was the Mom of a young child. I would want my governor/VP/elected leader to be free of such responsibilities to give the job the very real time commitment needed.

I heard most of the speech, before falling asleep towards the end! She did a great job. But I personally question whether it is right to take on such a high-pressure job, when she has five children, including teenagers who may need more of her time than she can give, and a baby with special needs. This bothers me. Is this the right time for her to be in national politics? I had planned to vote for McCain, – now I feel confused and uncertain, and probably will change my vote. I had hoped for a different choice from McCain. I’m sure she is a very good person, – I just can’t in good conscience help to put her in a VP spot.

My view may be unpopular, but anyway, there it is! Will follow all comments with much interest.

I think Sarah did a great job with her speech. She is a combination of common sense, dedication, Intregrity and Love of God, Country and Family. I think that she will do an outstanding job if she is elected. She sure has done Alaska a great service.

I agree. Guiliani’s speech was great! I haven’t heard many heads talking about it, though. Palin overshadowed him a little.
